Introducing:

The Trauma Hub!

and

Rwanda Update

Let's start with our Student Spotlight!

Laura Oakes is approaching her completion of the Trauma Coach Certification course and will also be joining us in Rwanda!

Here is a little bit about Laura:

Laura Oakes, MSN, CRNA, Trauma, Life, and Soul Purpose Coach at Renew: A New You, LLC Ocean Springs, MS

As the daughter of two mental health therapists, Laura was raised to be communicative, supportive, mindful, and accepting of others. Her passions include writing, hiking, dancing, swimming, yoga, and nature photography. An empath at heart, Laura has always felt called to help others heal. While working in healthcare for the past fourteen years, she has witnessed much pain, suffering, trauma, and death.

As an ICU nurse, followed by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for ten years, Laura has poured her heart into providing care from a place of compassion and patient advocacy.

Since 2016, Laura has been a part of the surgical team for Bayside Medical Missions in Portoviejo, Ecuador. In May of 2023, she will return to Ecuador to provide Anesthesia for Pediatric Orthopedic surgeries.

After working in the COVID-19 ICUS in New Orleans, LA Laura began to feel the affects of burnout, herself. Second-hand trauma absorption was highlighted by the percentage of providers exiting the system altogether; 1 in 5 healthcare workers have left medicine since the pandemic began.

Trauma absorption went widely unrecognized and unaddressed. She felt called to help bridge the gap between the high demand for mental health support and the availability of well-trained mental health professionals.

Laura will graduate from The Orenda Project, as a Certified Trauma Coach, in 2023. In February of 2023, she is attending a trauma workshop in Rwanda, Africa through the Global Engagement Institute + Orenda.

While working alongside local trauma-support organizations, she will learn the principles of coaching within a multicultural context. Rwanda is a Global leader in healing division, fostering humanity, promoting health, and trauma recovery.

Laura is concurrently attending a dual enrollment program at the Dharma Coaching Institute. In April of 2023, she will graduate as a Certified Spiritual Life and Certified Soul Purpose Coach from DCI.

Under the umbrella of Renew: A New You, Laura will offer a variety of coaching services, using a holistic approach, guiding clients to achieve mind body balance. Her aim is to aid clients in embodying health, wellness, and wholeness.

There is power in living a life in response to inspiration versus desperation. To be human is to experience hardship. In every challenge lies a growth opportunity. Laura feels inspired to help clients find their light within.

This is what Laura says about Orenda:

"Athena Phillips, founder of The Orenda Project, has carefully taken the time to create an intimate and insightful Trauma Coaching program. At The Orenda Project, we believe in the power of individuality. We help clients to fully embrace and build on their strengths."

Thank you for your contribution to the world, Laura!
